Daiwa Morethan Switch Hitter 85S 85mm 20g – Pearl Orange Belly

The Daiwa Morethan Switch Hitter 85S is one of Daiwa’s most versatile Japanese seabass lures — 85mm, 20g — built around an irregular slalom action that mimics a disoriented or fleeing baitfish. At 20g for only 85mm it is compact but heavy, which means it casts exceptionally well for its size and sinks quickly into the 0.2–1.0m zone where mulloway and tailor are often holding. The ‘S’ designation means sinking — this is the lure you reach for when the fish are sitting below the surface and a floating minnow isn’t getting down to them.

Pearl Orange Belly is a high-contrast attractor colour — pearl white back and flanks with a vivid orange belly — that is particularly effective in low-light conditions and on the Swan River where fish are used to seeing baitfish with a bright belly flash. The contrast between the pearl body and orange belly creates a strong visual trigger on the pause.

HOW TO FISH IT

Cast it out, let it sink to the desired depth (0.2–1.0m), then retrieve steadily to activate the irregular slalom action. Vary the sink time to target different depths. Works well on a straight retrieve, with short pauses, or on a slow roll through estuary channels and flats. Particularly effective on the Swan River and Peel-Harvey during low-light feeding windows when mulloway and tailor are active in the water column.
